One of the worst family films I’ve seen since another animated adaptation: Garfield. Talking bears aside, the film lacks logic, energy and, most of all, fun.
Blake Edwards proves that he was a more diverse filmmaker than perhaps he is given credit for. Sure, he can still whip out the laughs like few other directors could, but there’s a lot more substance here as well showing a deeper mind at work.
A film that never delves into the cartoonish or absurd but rather maintains a high level of intensity and purpose.
