A crudely shot but effective film that not only introduced us to Scorsese but several of the themes around religion, love and gender that he’s continued to explore even in his more recent films.
War of the Worlds confronts the West’s collective feelings of vulnerability but at the same time it reassures our potential for survival.
What makes it stand out is the fact that there’s some subversive politics happening beyond the fighting that is refreshing.

Feels…like the time of night where it’s almost time for bed, the fire in the fireplace is beginning to die and the house seems just a little cold.
