While I’m sure profits were a big part of the conversation the Paramount suits had when deciding to green-light The Godfather Part II, but Coppola didn’t go out and bastardize the franchise. Far from it.
Coppola offers a rich and layered look at family and does so with an incredible cast and a meticulous amount of detail.
There is something very carnal about watching the production fall apart and see the reputation of Coppola hang in the balance.
An old-fashioned cowboy movie that sticks to the genre’s roots with a little jigging and tweaking to remain relevant for current audiences.
Nobody’s perfect, but this movie’s pretty darned close in its subtle telling of a Godly man from the south on his quest for conviction.
